Twitter Got Me A Job
March 23rd, 2007
All you Twitter haters out there, listen up: since I became addicted to the site a few days before SXSW, not only has traffic at this blog tripled, but I’ve actually received several job offers. I already have a pretty tight schedule, so I wasn’t able consider most of these offers. But, starting next week, I will be contributing a weekly column to NewTeeVee, the self-described “Variety of online video,” and part of the GigaOm network. Of course, I’ll Twitter every new entry, so if you’re not yet my friend, what are you waiting for?

Congrats. Very cool site. Added feed and had not seen a Mossberg podcast before so that was great to find!

Congratulations! Though are you sure it’s the platform, and not the person?

Well, I’ll bite. How exactly did you get the job through Twitter. I’ve been riding the fence on Twitter for awhile now, but I’d be interested to know more about this story.

Ah, good call! As you know, NewTeeVee just classed itself up with a slicker design. Glad to see it’s shedding the trade-magazine feel that it began with.

[…] - “Twitter got me a job”. This doesn’t surprise me given the roster of early adopters and quality people, not to mention the authenticity of one’s own voice and life. […]

[…] About a week ago, Karina Longworth twittered about how Twitter got her a freelance writing gig. I became immediately intrigued and started to think through the potential of the site. I started twittering a couple links to MODE just to see how it would work. I haven’t seen much response, but then something happened. Someone linked to me, rather, became my “friend”, another complete stranger. Well now I wasn’t just twittering for me, I had an audience of one. So I started twittering more often. Then I got hooked. Now I can’t stop. I wouldn’t say I’m addicted, but I am finding myself on there a lot more often. The downside? It’s killing a bit of my productivity not just from posting, but also watching others post. Between Scoble, Calcanis and Vader, I’ll never get any work done. […]
